A little humor from Donna Reich

Arthur is 90 years old. He’s played golf every day since his retirement 25 years ago. One day he arrives home looking downcast.

“That’s it!”, he tells his wife. “I’m giving up golf. My eyesight has got so bad…once I’ve hit the ball, I can’t see where it went.”

His wife sympathizes. As they sit down she says, “Why don’t you take my brother with you and give it one more try.”

“That’s no good”, sighs Arthur. “Your brother is a hundred and three. He can’t help.”

“He may be a hundred and three”, says the wife, “but his eyesight is perfect.”

So the next day Arthur heads off to the golf course with his brother-in-law. He tees up, takes a mighty swing and squints down the fairway. He turns to his brother-in-law and says, “did you see the ball?”

“Of course I did”, says the brother-in-law. “I have perfect eyesight.”

“Where did it go?” asked Arthur.

“I can’t remember.”

Smart Phones

Smart Phones as Distance Measuring Devices:

Although WGANC Local Rules prohibit the use of cellular phones except in emergencies, many smart phone devices now include distance measuring applications for golf. The use of a smart phone with this application is allowed with all of the same provisions of our Local Rule for distance measuring devices; that is, the phone must not contain any other applications that might affect her play. Examples of prohibited applications include those that provide a compass, altimeter (elevation), or temperature.

The IPhone model 3GS comes with a built-in compass application that cannot be de-installed; therefore, use of the 3GS as a distance measuring device is prohibited.

The IPhone model 3G does not come with any prohibited applications; therefore, as long as the player has not added prohibited applications, it may be used under our local rule. It is the player’s responsibility to ensure her device conforms to our local rule.

The cell phone feature of these smart phones must not be used except in emergencies. It goes without saying that if using a smart phone as a distance measuring device, the ring tone should be set to Silent.

Saturday Play Days (Frances)

At today’s General Membership meeting, the membership authorized the Tournament Committee to add four “Saturday Play Days” to our 2010 Play Day Schedule. All ladies in the 18-hole DBWGC are encouraged to participate, especially those of you who work and cannot regularly make Tuesday Play Days. These play days will count towards qualifying for tournament play and team play. They will be conducted like any “Tuesday” play day and will be played on Saturdays that the Pro Shop has already designated for “shotgun” starts. The DBWGC Saturday Play Days are: June 5, July 10, August 21 and September 11. If these turn out to be popular, there are two more Saturdays (9/18 and 11/13) that we can look at adding later.

Happy Golfing…

General Meeting March 16, 2010

GENERAL MEETING
March 16th, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Captain Donna Reich at 2:28 p.m. The required quorum of members was present.

The minutes of the General Meeting of September 15th were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report:
Cathy Houston reported that our current balance is $11,157.86. Our proposed budget for this year is $2,465,00. The budget was approved by the members.

Invitational:
Liz Lord reported that she has many ideas for decorations, etc. She passed around a sign up sheet for those who want to help out. The theme is: Run for the Roses: Kentucky Derby. It will be held August 3rd, 4th and 5th. Sign up sheet in upstairs locker room.

Team Play:

Central Valley: Raquel Myers reported that there will be 10 teams but only 9 team play days. Tracy will not host a team play day. Also, we will continue paying $35 to play. Donna Reich suggested that we let other clubs know that we can now drive on our course. Kay Smith will be Raquel’s co-captain.

Diablo League:
Becky Frazier stated that their first team play day would be tomorrow. On April 20th, we will host the play day. She asked for volunteers to help out that day. Becky also reported that our team play outfits are in and ready for pick-up. There was some money left over from last year’s play day and each team player will be given credit in their accounts.

Tournament:
Fran Shipilov reported that at the Regional meeting they discussed how to get more of their club’s members to play in the Handicap and Championship tournaments. Some of the other clubs have started taking the best 2 out of 3 scores. This would enable those who might miss one day of the tournament to play. It was voted on and accepted. We will have to change the wording of our Rules and Regulations to state the above. Also, Fran reported that to eliminate a lot of work for the Tournament chairs, they will use the handicaps from the first of each month as we’ve always done in the past. Tournaments we will use the 1st and 15th handicaps. Hilary Frigillana reported that some ladies save up their scores and then enter them at the end of the month. This way their handicap doesn’t change.

For our members who work and can’t play on our play days, they can now play on Saturdays. This will enable them to play in tournaments and be counted in Eclectic. The Saturday play days motion was passed.

WGANC is going to have “Pendant Days”. Players having a total of 3 out of 4 best scores will receive a pin. These days will be; May 18th, July 13th, August 24th, and September 14th.
Hilary reported that cell phones with compasses will not be allowed during play.

OLD BUSINESS:

DONATIONS:
Donna Reich reported that we have $500 as a carry over for Donations from last year. Do we want to spend that money on donations? Motion was approved.

Proposed By-Law change: Article VIII, Section 1. B) was changed for more flexibility in our scheduling of our meetings. It will read: “ Three General meetings of DBWGC will be held during the year as close as possible to March, June, and September as indicated in the annual calendar of scheduled events.” This change was voted on and approved.

NEW BUSINESS:

DONATIONS:
Donna Reich stated that our group needs to vote on the placement of our $750 donation.

  1. CY Youth Club–it helps underprivileged children.
  2. Delta Community Services–aid for families in need such as; payment of utility bills, food, etc.
  3. Save the Calif. Alliance; the anti-gates project being proposed for the Delta.

Becky Frazier said that we should focus on helping others, such as the Delta Comm. Services would do. Fran Shipilov moved that we donate $500 to the Delta Comm. Services and $250 for the CY Youth Club. The motion was voted on and approved.

Rally 4 a Cure:
Donna reported that the 9-Hole ladies will run this year’s Rally 4 a Cure and that Becky Carter will represent our group.

Donna also reported that the next Open Days is at Brookside on April 21st. Stockton will have an Open Day on April 22nd.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeanne Zwemer
Secretary
